All non-captioned VHS videos are in the process of becoming digitized.  We are still in search of the perfect software and method to digitize the captioned portion of the videos.

The Digitizing Process: Here's what we do to make these available to you!

STEP 1: Capture

Using Vegas Movie Studio we play the VHS video tape and capture it in real time.  It is then rendered into an ".avi" file. In this process, we can not improve the quality; we are simply maintaining and preserving it.

STEP 2: Burn Master Copy

Using DVD Architect Studio, we burn a master copy of the video onto DVD.  This copy is used to produce sales copies.

STEP 3: Encode

Using Windows Media Encoder, we encode the .avi file into a .wmv file. This file is stored in the server under its respective catalog number.

STEP 4: Burn data copy

A data copy of the file is stored as a second backup. (The servers are backed up as well.)

STEP 5: Catalog

After encoding, the document is cataloged in the CyberTools digital library and is given a hyperlink to its saved video file.

Downloading the Video file:

Each video item that has been digitized will have a link that looks like this:

Click here to access video. (Not a hyperlink.)

Clicking on the link will open the following page:

videodownload

This page gives you two options:

1.) Play the file on your computer.

If the file does not play when you select "Click here to Play", then you may need to download:

Windows Media Player at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/ or

DivX Player (for Mac) at http://www.divx.com

2.) Download the file to your computer.

If you would like to save the file to your computer, select "Click here to Download".  Video files are extremely large.  It is recommended to burn the file to disc after downloading it.  This allows you to delete the file from your hard drive and free up space.  In order to burn the file to disc, you will need to have burning software.

The recommended disc burning software is:

Nero Burning ROM at http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads.html or

               Roxio/Toast (for Mac) at http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/titanium/overview.html

NOTE: Video materials may be purchased in DVD or VHS format through NCRTM. See Ordering Materials for  more details.
